Definitions

Population: set of all individuals or objects you want to study
Sample: only part of the population is studied, is a subset of the population

Reasons for Samples

Safety
Preservation of Product

Example

Medical lab work
Population is entire blood system
Sample is only blood draw

Random

Samples need to be taken randomly
Random: every item in the population has the same chance of being picked

Notes For Final Memo

Should include:

  • What was studied
  • Who was studied in terms of population and sample
  • What results were concluded from the data
  • Rough calculations and graphs
